Although Romeo X Juliet deviated from the classic William Shakespere play of similar name, it still remained true even in the final outcome. Honestly a bravo effort on the part of Japanese anime story-writers and artists. Another anime I recommend with a basis in literature/classic plays is Gankutsuo: The Count of Monte Christo. Although Gankutsuo tends to get a bit over-dramatic in the story of Edmund Dantes, the point gets through by about the final 4 episodes. I will admit that in the end of Romeo X Juliet I did want to cry (Yeah i'm a guy, but i'm a sucker for romantic movies/series). Some of the characters were a bit funky although I did like the fact that William S. did have a starring role. If your on the fence about this anime, don't be. Alot more serious than most animes, its not as heavy as Gankutsuo or as light as something like Chobits. It falls under the middle as far as engaging action mixed with a heartfelt but not overly done romance story. Honestly, this series was as much fun as it was sad and exciting.
