I like magic shows so I'll give anyone a shot.
In a nutshell this performer is a Scooby-doo version of the pseudo-demonic Criss Angel. I would suggest this program for families, much like those in his TV audience. (I think most of the 20-somethings in the audience that kept making camera appearances were perhaps his dormies and frat bros.) Don't expect anything ground-breaking or extreme. It might even help lull the tiny ones to sleep.
I think I have seen most of the magic or versions of it before. However I say to you, any trick you haven't seen is new so this show is good for young viewers. My beef with the show is the same as with all street magicians. I think the casual, unrehearsed personal of these guys may work for spare change on the sidewalk but when on TV I'd like them to present an act appropriately paced for the TV medium. I don't buy into the meandering presentations, especially when they use standard props or tricks. The 'magic' is diluted to become just a party stunt. TV is pumped up reality - the presentation should be pumped up accordingly. The hip, blazee attitude and pacing produces a lot of dead time.
Again, good for the family audience after your done watching the regular shows for the night. Lots of audience schtick - sometimes so much I forgot he was supposed to be doing magic. The best stuff was the short tricks before commercials. Most of the main effects will have magic shop customers across the country yelling -" I do that too!". Families will probably talk about how 'tricks' are done and have some chuckles.
