Is it just me, or do the refs in Strikeforce stand people up too quickly? There have been a couple of times where someone is on their back, working the groundgame, and then they get stood up. This is kind of annoying when one fighter is a prevalent ground fighter and the other is a striker. It takes away from the sport to have the ref interrupt that quickly. I see taking a moment to rest on the ground, fidgeting around to test leverage and such, as no different than when fighters are just pacing around each other and maybe throwing light jabs.
Strikeforce has signed Arlovski to fight Brett Rogers in June and their HW champ Overeem is set to make a return to defend his title, so the potential is there for their HW division, but in the meantime they have enough talent in their other divisions to keep their Showtime cards interesting.UFC has a monopoly on middleweights? You mean they have a monopoly on the LightHW division. Anderson Silva has yet to be challenged by any middleweight since winning the title and the one middleweight that I think can compete with Silva, Gegard Mousasi, doesn't fight for the UFC. Yushin Okami? He keeps getting injured in training. Marquardt? Silva already beat him before. Demian Maia? A one-dimensional submission artist, albeit an amazing one, but I see Silva successfully avoiding the ground with him. Dan Henderson? Silva already beat him although he was the last person to give Silva any trouble, but he's already set to fight Bisping before another title shot. There's no wonder that the UFC matchmakers had to make Silva's next fight at 205 against Forrest Griffin.

Clay is fighting in the UFC, so this is a legit win for Melendez, Strikeforce like most leagues not the UFC has a few divisions that are really poor, Heavywieght is the best example as there are only 6 what id call WC HWs... 4 in the UFC Mir, Minitaro, Carwin, Brock. the 2 others are in Affliction Fedor(p4p best fighter in the world today) and Andrei Arlovski. So i give Strikeforce a pass, its a poor divison, overall so id look for young developing talent and give them a shot. other weaker divisions are middleweight, which the UFC has a monopoly on, save Cung Li. Overall id give Strikeforce a solid B, the commentary is dull, the cards soft in places, but for a growing division it has potential, to one day be a rival to the Zuffa monopoly.
