If you can overlook the band, this is a great documentary about Mississippi.

...But, I liked hearing from/about these guys.As for the bands fame (or lack thereof), well, if they are known about by Malcolm White... they is certainly some merit to the film being made. Malcolm owns a local hot spot in Jackson, MS (Hal & Mals) and it's at the center of music, partying and etc, etc. ;) Malcolm, send the check to... Steve Honeycutt / PO Box 6969 / Jackson MS. 36969Being a Mississippi Boy, I whole-heartedly agree with D. Ford when they say "Mississippi - not as bad as you would think." This state has been given a bad rap for many years for various things. I'd challenge the stone-throwers to look in your own back yard where you'll surely find evidence of the exact things Mississippi gets a beat down for. If they don't find that evidence, they're just not looking hard enough or are scared to admit to it.

After being on the screening committee for a film festival and watching a great many documentaries of varying quality, I've come up with a formula: All documentaries should be at least half as long as the film-makers think. (Including this one, which I actually helped make.) There is genuine humor and energy in this film, even for people who never heard of the band. This is a good film.
The beginning however could have been reshaped, but as the story develops it's very interesting and fun to watch. Documentaries are about people and what they do, you have accomplished this in a fun and entertaining way, Thank you. I think the band have some really good tunes and I would love to hear and see more.

I was very active in the early seventies and onward i and was in a number of bands over the years that were not all that different from this one. If you can pick up some coin, great, but this was not a group that I would have wanted to stay with for long. Obviously no future. Frankly, most struggling groups are very much like this. Truly talented musicians are very hard to find, particularly when they are surrounded by that huge, galloping herd of people who _think_ that they are talented. From what we see in this film the music was cliche from day one and things were pretty much a mess. What you do see is energy, a serious confusion of direction, and not much else. For these guys, it was about the fun, the exhilaration, and the head trip of performing live. Genuine talent was not really part of the equation.This makes me think of Pete Townsend. For him it is / was about good solid songwriting, a great head for production, and a genuine talent for rhythm guitar (we are talking about drama, intelligence, an excellent sense of timing, and not trying to be something he is not.) The performances were all built on this very strong foundation and it was the attitude that gave it focus. You just don't see any of that in this band.
