jdohe - As she said, she wasn't burned by the metal pan handle, she was burned by the oil that came spilling out of it. Also, you should never put ice on a burn. Cold water can help minor burns, but it doesn't look like her wounds were minor.

I burned myself enough to blister recently, and after about 3 hours, when I still had to keep my hand submerged in cold water to keep the pain away (none of the ointments/aloe I had on hand were helping), I went to a clinic. They gave me a 1% silver sulfadiazine ointment (still in my first aid kit) which was like a miracle in a tube. Took the pain away, and the burn was healed enough after 2 days that I could remove the gauze.
As to your question about the other people in the kitchen - I was wondering the same thing!
