not really that bad

Hulu seems to be full of critics. Bad acting? Compared to what? I'd like to know the qualifiacations of anyone posting about "bad acting" on Babylon 5. It's a sci fi program and the acting is on par with just about every other sci fi television show in the last few years. You want bad acting? Check out BUCK ROGERS IN THE ... blech I can't even finish typing that sentence ..

I liked the episode for a couple reasons. One was the protrayel of the alien family as greiving but deeply concerned and determined to act in their own manner concerning the life/death of their son. The second was Sheridan's siding WITH the alien family and against the doc. To me the weakest performance was the Dr. - but that's just me.

Did anyone else notice the child AFTER the operation acted more robotic? Could this be an indication that his soul DID leave and he was really a demon in the same skin? Just something to consider before goin all weapy about what the parents felt they had to do.

Tough crowd out there

I enjoyed the moral dilemma the doctor faced. How do you reconcile two belief systems that are at odds with one another? How do you figure out which one is 'right' or if either of them is even right? How do you make that choice? Should the wishes of the parents, and even the patient, be subsumed by that of their doctor? Etc,...lots of really good stuff to think about.

I'm going to have to disagree with Rayzor369's comment that this episode features poor acting. I'm sorry, but I just don't understand where this comment comes from. The doctor in particular has some fantastic scenes (my favorite comes at the end of the episode when he learns the fate of the child), but Commander Sinclair also has some really nice stuff (the scene where he asks the boy what he wants for example). Even the supporting cast wasn't bad. Both the parents did a fantastic job with difficult parts IMHO.

If there was a weak link when it came to the acting I would peg it as being the boy, who comes off as a bit wooden. Still, he never ruins the episode.

The weakest element in the story was probably the raider sub-plot, which is paper thin. But it takes so little screen time it seems silly to complain (plus there is a nice little moment at the very end of the episode where a parallel is drawn to the main plot).

It was a redeemable endeaver

Poor acting. This story does serve to flesh out the character of the good Dr. and he is found to be the exact kind of Dr. that anyone would want on their side. It also showed the consequences of interfering with the lives of others.
