Most reviewers are spot on, good movie. But if you are male, there is a ton of talking (2 hours 20 minutes!?), little action, and it is a love story. Bravo to Jessica Lange.

This film sure made me appreciate my Scottish roots,
Fine acting and excellent directing, this movie will take you there and leave you with a whole heart. Thank you Liam an Jessica for such fine acting ... as well as the rest of the cast. Even if I searched far and wide, I couldn't find anything wrong with this classic.

I dont think everyone should be comparing this too braveheart. I understand they are similar, for many different reasons, but they are both great movies. Braveheart was just a bigger production and rob roy was on a smaller scale.

The best part about great films like this, it has everything. It doesn't bore you with historical facts, or excessive romance, or nonstop action/gratuitious violence. Though it has all of them in just the right amounts.

I absolutely adore Tim Roth, but I admit watching him in this role is hard to take. He is so brilliant that you feel his malevolence. You believe it. I have admired him as an actor since I saw this movie more than 12 years ago. See 2 other replies
