"Bite of the Jackal" features young Shannon Doherty in the spunky role of a stowaway who is stranded with Dominic in Mexico after his helicopter is sabotaged by a bomb en-route to Acapulco. What ensues is a heartfelt collaboration borne of necessity between the older pilot and his young charge amidst a dangerous trap designed to capture Hawke and Airwolf . Little do the perpetrators know, however, that Hawke has a secret co-pilot on board who knows what they are up to.
The title reflects an allusion within the pilot episode to exploiting a weakness, a Jackal killing the Wolf by knowing where to bite. The overall storyline reflects Don Bellisario's original vision for the show by mixing government intrigue with touching human interest. The plotlines such as this one where Airwolf is pursued by those who would seek to posses, or in this case re-posses it are some of the very best. It is also a good example of how the series still holds up with a contemporary audience. Try to find anything that looks dated other than the model year of Archangel's limousine and you'll be hard pressed.
"Bite of the Jackal" is full of exciting flying sequences and incredible music and is a series hallmark for both. Along with "To Snare a Wolf," this episode is a must-see for the casual viewer.
