old animes are the best- you just got to love them. everything from the style to the cheesy heartwarming plot lines to the characters- everything is just such a fizzy warm feeling- I have many fond childhood memories of films much like this one. (Oddly enough my family was main stream- but only for things older than 10 years.) My only contention with this is if the bad guy is a FROST based one- why did he BURN down a village?

One of the classics of Japanese Animation — a benchmark film in many ways — breaking free of Japanese-bound stories that Toei Animation had mostly produced previously, such as LITTLE PRINCE AND THE EIGHT-HEADED DRAGON and THE MAGIC BOY (all released in the US by various studios). This is considered the breakout film for Isao Takahata (GRAVE OF THE FIREFLIES), and featured classic character designs by Yasuo Otsuka (LUPIN III). Also featuring contributions from the then-up and coming, Hayao Miyazaki, Yoichi Kotabe, and Yasuji Mori. The original Japanese title was "Horus: Prince of the Sun" (aka "The Sun Prince: Hols' Great Adventure"). It is available as an English-subtitled DVD (PAL and Region 2) in the UK under the title "The Little Norse Prince" from Optimum Releasing. Toei Video in Japan also has issued this film in anamorphic widescreen for DVD. This is the way to go in seeing this film — this Hulu presentation undermines the film's integrity.I would have rated this Five Stars, but this presentation badly needs to be remastered and presented in its original 1:35 widescreen anamorphic ratio — this presentation works against the original's visual strengths, and makes the film look cheap with muted colors. Serious restoration is in order for this film to be fully appreciated.

The plotline was essentially an RPG's plotline. Almost all of the elements in this movie are RPG based. Or maybe it's the other way around. What does it really matter?
It was a great movie, with intense emotional scenes, and excellent depth. :D
