I absolutely agree. While he didn't get his heart, but was only placed on the list, he had that glimmer of hope. As you say, it may have been voyeuristic, but it really puts life in to perspective. The meeting with the family interrupted by the patient going into cardiac arrest was devastating. I was most struck by the foreshadowing of the doctor discussing how the failure of the insurance company to approve a visit 3 weeks earlier could have been the difference between life and death.I think this documentary series puts all other medical dramas to shame. This is real.

Anyone else find Marvin's story to be the most gut wrenching part of this series so far? The show captured the high of highs when he "got his heart", and the low of lows- as he said goodbye to his family. While it is slightly voyeuristic, Marvin's story being captured is truly what makes Boston Med, and its predecessor, Hopkins, such groundbreaking, and remarkable television.I for one will not forget the look in Marvin's eyes after they have discontinued CPR and the doctor told him basically "that's it." Truly haunting and heartbreaking.I hope so much this show returns next summer. The true human emotion involved in every second of every episode is astounding.
The producers should mention specific insurers, after they verify the facts in these cases. If the insurers realized they might get outted on national television, they'd think more carefully before making these arbitrary denials of benefit. Very bad PR.
It's pretty scummy that Marvin's care was delayed because insurance initially refused his care but not all medical bills are covered by insurance. Especially transport or out-of-network costs, and it sounds like they were what? Twelve hours away from home? I'm not trying to be the devils advocate or anything for the insurance company. But my patient's (who have extended stays as well) sometimes will have things like benefit dinners to help cover their medical costs since insurance doesn't cover everything. It stinks because you'd think that you're secure by having insurance but that's not exactly the way it is.
...gives accounts of the good and the bad. Makes for a more realistic show. and I'm so excited to see DiBar's making a comeback! I spot him at 40:56. Hooray! :) Now they should bring back JD!
