the movie shouldn't be banned. i am sure they can come up with better stories than chopping people's head off. it's disgusting. let say Europe was once that primitive but no anymore. throw this movie in the trash.

Maybe it was the fact that I didn't get much sleep the night before, but this movie was a real bore. I'll give any movie a chance, but I wish someone would have warned me about this one.*** SPOILER ALERT! ***So, the movie begins with Mads being made to fight two guys while chained to a pole by his neck in some sort of Celtic cage match. The brutality of the movie really caught my interest, as movies with this level of realism usually carries with it a very intriguing plot. This definitely wasn't the case. I dozed off a couple times during the movie, and my friends I watched it with said I didn't miss anything... at all.The following is a summary of the entire movie, as I remember it. One-Eye is like a caged animal who breaks out of his cage and kills his owner. He lets the boy live, and the boy follows him. They come across some christians who take them on a boat to the Americas. That whole time, One-Eye kills people, randomly it seems. So once they reach the Americas, everyone dies one way or another, except for the boy. The part that really ticked me off was that after being such a bad-a** throughout the movie, One-Eye surrenders to the Native Americans in the end, who immediately kill him. There really isn't too much more to the movie than that. Some people might be able to read into it a bit, but they'd just be BSing you. This is a bore fest punctuated with moments of raw violence. Breaking heads open with a rock, raw. Other than that, there really isn't a plot, as far as I can tell.

I saw this about a week back. I saw it mainly because of Mads Mikkelson I know thats a very girly thing to admit.
So on to the point of this review; the movie in and of itself is hard to watch. Its a very very brutal film. I admired that about the film and at the same time found the violence to be very off putting but those were the times. There is very little dialogue in the film. Mikkelson does not speak at all. IMO because of the minimal dialogue its kind of hard to figure out the who what where and why of One Eye (Mikkelson)
I think what was hard for me to watch (violence wise) is that its not like American films where the violence commited upon another is set in the dark and is by a monster this man to man violence and the violence is not hidden by blacked out sets or rain storms you see and hear every bone breaking, gore squishing sound. Definetly something you do not see in American films anymore.
In a way he (One Eye) kind of reminded me of Frankenstein. His brutality was gross but it served a man created purpose. He is either befriended by or befriends a kid who becomes his voice. They end up on a ship bound for jerusalem with a bunch of crusaders and end up in the America's where they touch land and reveal themselves for who they really are. Its an interesting film very violent, sometimes hard to watch but it kept my attention to the end.
IMO its worth more as a rental than plunking down 15 bunks to see it in the theaters. But thats just my opinion.

This got really bad reviews I am going to see it anyway because Mads rocks.

Sounds like a movie worthy of the history of European war. I cannot wait to see it.
