Interesting (and perhaps simplistic) reasoning behind the classification of ibogaine as a schedule I prohibited drug in the US. And of course, once a drug is classified as schedule I, it seems to be impossible to get its classification downgraded.
No question that the drug is effective in the interruption of addiction, however it is not as simple as just administering one dose. There is a counseling and therapeutic component to the treatment as well. Further, there are the possibilities of other harmful drug and non-drug (ie food) interactions.
