I have fallen in love with this show, but it wasn't easy, these characters are scoundrels you see. They are "travelers", white gypsies, con-men and women who live by their wits and would sooner boost your wallet then give you the time of day. I'm told I'm a buffer, a sap, one of the hard working 9 to 5 crowd who send their kids to the best schools they can afford and eek out a living to buy the house in the good neighborhood, the fancy car and the rest of the American Dream we all think we deserve. I pay my taxes, go to church and send my Mom flowers on Mother's day. Pretty upright as far as the law is concerned; but, then again doesn't everybody tweak their tax forms a bit? Add a few hours to the time sheet to feed the kitty? Cut a cash deal on the side that doesn't wind up in the payroll? Re-gift at Christmas when the circumstance allows? I suggest we all do take advantage of an opportunity when we can, to do more than just survive.... we want a little bit of extra "koosh".
So when The Riches holds a mirror up to our society of insiders vs. outsiders the reflections become blurred.....there are times when this family of scoundrels exhibit more genuine loving concern for each other and their neighbors then I have witnessed in a month of Sundays at church. Their crazy masquerade of confidence on the job isn't that different than how one feels rising up the corporate ladder to a new level of incompetence. Of course there has been "accidental" murder and death involved in their good fortune, but as I see it, they are like vultures that prey on carrion.....somebody has to get rid of all those bodies, and their survival depends on it.
I do hope this series will survive for a 3rd season.....the story and characters have me hooked. There is a feeling of pride and excellence about this cast and crew and they deserve another full season to tell their unfinished story.
