Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full The most bizarre film ever made
It only appears to be bizarre if you haven’t read Burroughs or know his life. Naked Lunch combines parts of the famed book with Junkie and his life. Peter Weller plays Bill Lee to perfection. Judy Davis is perfect as Joan. The cast is very surprising mix. You have to love the salty sensuous sound of Ornette Coleman.

My first exposure to Naked Lunch was read by Peter Weller in a 24 hour book store in New Haven, back in ‘80’s, before he became the actor he is today.

The director specializes in the physically disturbing, and you should probably watch this movie by yourself. Definitely not a family film. Uneven, but worth watching, and I thought the ending was excellent. You need to know a few things about Burroughs to figure it out.

Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_empty Very weird, but entertaining
I enjoyed this movie even though some parts were very difficult to follow. I think you will be able to get into the movie easier if you understand a bit about Burroughs and his own drug problems. I recommed it.

Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full It's not the drugs bro
Though drugs played a major roll in the life of burroughs, and a supporting act in this movie, I don't see them to be the center focus of Naked Lunch. I remember reading something from his youth in "anarchy's cookbook" where he was writing tests on different drugs he tried, and like the writer, Naked Lunch leans heavily on that crutch. Obviously this film portrays a much deeper message about sexuality, and our damsel in distress. Beat wives waiting on a drag off of a cigarette butt pulled from an ashtray; is like being the son of William Tell, and is not what she should have to do with an apple, or to fill an empty glass. The internet agents in Naked Lunch are not so acceptable as to be influential writers, like Burroughs, who is allowed to cross borders, and to ascend into the public minds with his target that was dealt to him. It is only his realization of this truth, which can not exist; that strips him of his clothes at lunch in the first scene of the movie, then makes a full revolution in front of his drug smitten, but reluctantly open "naked" eyes.

Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Brilliant Film
William S. Burroughs has always been one of my favorite writers and even though Naked Lunch is without a doubt his most schizophrenic and drug induced and influenced piece of literature, it's strangeness always seemed to interest me more and more, and I recommend the book highly to those that are open minded and are willing to read some not so pleasant things, and I also highly recommend Junky, which is the story of William Lee (the character from this movie based on Burroughs) and his struggle with heroin addiction. This movie showed in an amazing way how drugs can take someone on such a long strange trip and also how drugs affect the creative processes. I was thoroughly impressed by the movie and pleased to see something that not only captivated me but shocked me at times as well. I'm terrified of bugs and I was able to get past the entomology phobia I have and enjoy this film for what it is. A contemporary classic with a touch of almost modern art in cinema. Very strange and hard to piece together, but in the end definitely a worthwhile experience. I highly recommend it.
