This is one of those must-sees for law students and lawyers, in the ranks of films like Paper Chase, My Cousin Vinny and the book Gideon's Trumpet. While some serious procedural questions could be asked of the script (e.g., prosecutor has to convince the judge before he can drop the State's charges?) the overall progress of the case is dramatic, the acting spot-on for the story, and the themes of a Prosecutor's duty to do justice (not just to convict), the relationship between politics and Prosecutors (a la UNC Chapel Hill Lacrosse team) and the fallibility of "eye witness" and other evidence are all well-played.
One of the more entertaining films I've seen on Hulu. More obscure classics, please!
This film, produced by Louis de Rochmont ("House on 92nd Street," "Dial Northside 777," etc.) is a classic example of the semi-documentary (or as it is now known, "docudrama") school. Director Elia Kazan, who up until that time had specialized in studio-bound dramas, took his cameras out into the real world for the first time, a practice he would follow for the rest of his career. The whole cast, including the underrated Andrews, is exceptional.
Very few movies or just about anything in the media today makes me feel prouder to be an American as this movie did, why? Because truth won! Another thought, White Water. Truth is stranger then fiction.
A great classic and with a powerful statment that is timeless. If there were more films like this the world would be a different place and for the better, for sure.
