I never played soccer, and as a college American football player, and wrestler, always considered it some sort of socialist sissy third world sport. Then, during the World Cup games this year, a friend who was a professional soccer player, gave me Franklin Foer's brilliant treatise "How Soccer Explains the World" and became fascinated. I became addicted to the World Cup games, even watching all the televised games starting at 2:30 Am here. So in spite of knowing nothing at all about the game, now I'm becoming intrigued. Then this morning some deal old friends originally from South Africa dropped by my house and in the course of discussion of the book, Eleanor and Martin mentioned this gem, "I Speak Soccer". This is a well conceived and thoroughly engrossing documentary. BTW, Why didn't I see this at Sundance this past year? This "little epic" work of art should definitely make that high end film festival circuit. Terrific film, even for a no-nothing like me.
