First off the hair. Can't move forward before we discuss that Lee press on Hair with a chin strap that dosen't match his sideburns or the hair on the back of his head. Nobody on the film crew could say "Burt maybe you should die your remainig hair or maybe get higher quality fake hair?" You got money... ....well I guess if he's making Malone times might have been tough for Burt. Still why would you allow yourself to be in a barbershop seen when you wear a Toupee?
Second I love Burts character, Malone. An impossibley Bronsonish/Norrisish tough guy who speaks in few syllables and is not afraid to keep it real with a 5-day beard and a paunch barely restrained by his Hagar stretch slacks(in character or Burt just didn't give a darn I don't care its marvelous). Is Malone really that tough you ask, you would have to be a bionic, Jack Lalane on steroids to push a '69 Mustang up and down dirt roads through the mountains. Malone does it ONE HANDED!!!!
Third is the excellent cast of B gradecharacter actors who keep the movie rolling through the stilted dialouge and jump cutting headshot directing style. Hill billy thugs all walk the walk and talk the talk failing to best Malone in fist-a-cuffs but provide proper banter and "comically contorted faces of pain" when gettin their "hash settled" by Malone.
The corrupt sheriff( serioulsy are all small town sheriffs on the take), helpless locals (father is a wuss and daughter has an obvious, inappropriate attraction for the much, much, much older Malone),and a greedy, land hungry, rascist public official with an army of hitman goons dressed in ill fitting business suits. It's all here.
Fourth the stunts are FABULOUS. when Malone shoots someone or something it's not a little bullet, it's a howitzer shell resulting in an explosion of blood or, well, just a giant explosion. Comical "old-timey" high falls, break away railings. mismatched stuntmen all lead up to a lopsided Malone Vs. Hencman killing sequence and the ultimate showdown with evil official who of course explains his until now hazy plan to take over the valley before being dispatched by Malone. Oh yeah and there is a big explosion.
Classic bad tough guy movie. It all boils down to a vague, sociopathic vendetta over passed ills perpetraited by the man upon Malone. It's all about Malone. Stay tuned for the sequel "Malone 2: Burt Needs More Money."
