Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_empty Great Movie!
A great movie, but not historically accurate. Though the greed and cruelty of the Spanish was well represented, there was no mention of the fact that the vast majority of the Spanish army was made up of volunteers from Native American tribes who favored Spanish rule over the tyranny of the Mexican ruling class, who enslaved the majority of the population and, among other atrocities, performed daily human sacrifices in their temples. I’m not defending the Conquistadors, but the “New World“ before the Europeans came was not the Garden of Eden that many seem to think it was. It was a place of cruelly, slavery, cannibalism, and human sacrifice. Then again, who watches a movie for a history lesson? It was a well spun yarn, and I recommend it.

A movie from a time when the writers and producers had a story to tell, and actors in all roles of a film could pull you into the story. Great movie, if you love the old classics then this is definately for you.

I wish we could get rid of all the new 'special effects' and re-learn how to tell stories in the movies.

This maybe an oldy but it is nice to see a movie without all the ugly language and a love story without all the nudity. We need more movies made these days such as this. Some of the best actors of old were the best. Our young actors would do well to learn from the oldys. It was also nice to hear the name Jesus Christ since now it seems taboo to even mention His name in the land of the free. To hear his name such as the priest used His name was most refreshing.

This movie is remarkably well done for its time. Well costumed, well choreographed, and historically accurate. The plot is not nearly as thin as would would expect. Worth watching!

Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_full Rating_empty HOLLYWOOD HISTORY CAN BE FUN
EUROPEAN GENOCIDE IN THE WESTERN HEMISPHERE EXCEPTED, THIS MOVIE IS A GREAT AFTERNOON DELIGHT FOR BUFFS LIKE ME. THE CAST: POWER, ROMERO, PETERS, RICHARDSON IS ROCK SOLID FOR A FORTIES CONQUEST/LOVE STORY/REVENGE FLICK. RAN CLEAN ON MY FLASH 9 WITH ONLY A COUPLE OF BUFFER STALLS. GENERALLY SHARP IMAGES AND THOUGH THE MID-TWENTIETH CENTURY ORCHESTRATION WAS A BIT THICK AT TIMES, THE COSTUMES, ART WORK AND AUTHENTIC PRE-COLOMBIAN SITES IN MEXICO ARE JUST GREAT.
