But before I answer that, I'd just like to emphasize something about which I've pontificated here at length in the past, namely that the series PILOT is "No Place to Hide" and the first EPISODE is "The Reluctant Stowaway"; further, because it makes much sense to number the 1st episode "1", I regard the pilot as "episode 0" -- unlike the Hulu system, mind you.Now to your question. For the take-off close-up, Guy Williams -- with Angela and the Bloop in tow -- was simply lifted by wire; for the in-flight close-ups, the gang was filmed standing up, legs out of camera view, with the moving background provided via back-projection or whatever was the sfx technique of the day; and for the in-flight long-shots, that was Bill Suitor flying, with a Penny dummy and Debbie dummy (both no doubt very light) attached to the jet pack. Yes, really flying; I'd like to think Suitor was paid extra. Again, some very neat editing work here.I wish we'd seen more of that spiky Space Tortoise in the series.   See 4 other replies

How did they do the shot where they show him giving a piggy back ride to Penny and Bloop back to the ship?
They looked like dummys attached to the pilot's back, but was he really flying with them attached?   See 4 other replies
