While many aficionados consider Vertigo to be Hitchcock's masterpiece, it isn't my favorite of his efforts. That honor goes to Rear Window—also with Jimmy Stewart—or Strangers on a Train, which features a great performance by Robert Walker as the villain.
Nevertheless, I did enjoy Vertigo's eerie atmosphere. It's one of the few movies that unsettled me without my being able to quite put my finger on why, though I suspect Bernard Herrmann's score has a lot to do with it. I can't wait for Hulu upload the whole film so that others in my generation can get turned onto this legendary director's body of work.
