Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_empty Priceless
I can see Joss answering his phone with "Joss Actual...", he is such a big nerd!

Nice overview, eclectic group of celebrities.

Having never seen one episode of Firefly or Babylon 5, I can't make comparisons. I do know that I was hooked on BSG from Ep 1 and I hated the old school version which was discount Star Wars fx with awful characters. Best SciFi show ever? History will judge, I only know it's the best sci fi show in the past ten years, IMHO.

Rating_fullRating_emptyRating_emptyRating_emptyRating_empty Hype detector goes to 11
I'm with conrad37 here: The idea that BSG is "unprecedented" or "the best ever" is just plain ignorant. The guy who talks about the "amazing" special effects on a budget -- "Bablyon5" has effects at least as good, with a smaller budget, and oh yeah, consistently came in *under* budget. It's particularly galling to see Joss Whedon shuck and jive about BSG, given that "Firefly" was a better show in almost all respects. It reminds me more than a little of a time I saw Richard Attenborough having to stroke the ego of a studio exec you've never heard of (and never will), because he wanted to get "Chaplin" distributed, and this guy was the only person who could sign the check. I can only think Joss has something similar he wants, and he thinks excessive on-camera praise for BSG now will earn him some chips he can call in later.

Really... It's an OK show, but it ain't *that* good.

Rating_fullRating_emptyRating_emptyRating_emptyRating_empty the problem.....
All these celebs kept saying "It's good scifi because it's about the characters and story, and the drama, and blah blah" and they give the impression that no other show did that. Guys, Babylon 5, Farscape and Star Trek TOS had the same qualities and did a better job because they didn't focus the series on the "Science Fiction" either. But you could never convince critics of that. What made those shows better was they had characters with redeemable qualities. All the good drama in the world isn't worth spit if the characters don't have some balance and levity.

Science Fiction has always been a celebration of the creative mythologies and worlds that can take our minds away from reality and still be relevant. This series can have its fans, which is admirable, but it didn't go anywhere that hasn't been done before. All Ron Moore did was make every character into a whiner or a jerk, and I get the feeling he's bitter about his Star Trek years. Critics love whiners, alcoholics and jerks because they think that makes good drama. I'm not being mean about this, it's just my perspective.

The only reason why critics feel this is the best scifi show ever is because jaded reviewers for TV guide and EW and such have simply never appreciated Science Fiction for what it has done. It's all geek stuff to them, so naturally they love a scifi show of this nature. The breakthroughs of Star Trek? Have you guys forgotten that? Space 1999? The drama of Babylon 5 was just as good if not better, and it was fun to watch. Come on, if you're going to make such claims about the series, ya better back it up against other sci fi without resorting to generalizations. Yeah, there are these celebs who love the show, which is fine, but if you're going to mock the general properties of Science Fiction just because you think it's all geek, then the show should have never been a scifi show to begin with.

It's admirable that BSG has generated such a following, but it's not the best, or even the most realistic. When it's all said and done, and the years go by, the only ones who will do much reminiscing about this show will be those same critics who have still not come to appreciate science fiction.

Rating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_fullRating_full Wow
It's funny to realize I'm not the only one who feels sucked into this show, It's obsessive . The writers, directors, and cast members make BSG:2003 the best show I've ever watched.
