I wonder if I will ever like a book adaptation by Disney. Seriously, why must they ruin the best parts of books? Kyle is a total jerk, yes, but you can see some motivation from him as his first person perspective in the book. Magda is no longer Latina (if that is still her name), the whole Lindy coming to his house is messed up (perhaps more realistic, but still), but most of all Kyle/Adrian is supposed to be a beast! An actual physical beast who was only able to go out on Halloween to not be seen as a monster. He's supposed to be SCARY, not slightly weird looking with some slight protrusions but still human. I know that screenwriters can take license from the novel, but sometimes what they do makes no sense to the story. Any sensible girl would be able to possibly kiss and fall in love with a strange looking human, but I am sure it would be much more difficult to do so with someone not even human but a beast. Sigh. I really do wish someone had actually thought about the story rather than possible makeup issues or whatever reason was given for not having him be a beast. No doubt someone will find something negative to say about my rant, but how would you feel when so many of your favorite novels are turned into something not only totally different than you imagined, but ignoring key plot points and sometimes the entire point or essence of the book? The only good side of this seems to be Neil Patrick Harris. Gotta love him.
