Yes, evolution is a scientific theory, but a "theory" in terms of science are NOT the same as the public's use of the term "theory".
A scientific theory isn't a guess.
A scientific theory is a STRONGLY SUPPORTED assertion that has stood up to numerous trials and tests. (And my supported, I mean by experiments and tests, not just supported by a populous of humans.)
In science, a "theory" holds MORE weight that something that someone would call a "fact".
Facts can be disproven (and ARE all the time), but scientific theories have gone through rigorous testing, verification, peer review, reproduction. Scientific hypothesis are the guesses. It takes a TON of evidence before a hypothesis is accepted as a theory.
GRAVITY is a scientific THEORY. Are you going to claim gravity is a guess and in the realm of philosophy?
The movement of the planets around the sun is a scientific THEORY.
Knowledge of electricity, physics and all tenants of ENGINEERING are all based on SCIENTIFIC THEORY.A scientific "THEORY" is __NOT__ a guess.   See 5 other replies

Here's my take: God created us and gave us free will; then he watched as we continued to kill and hate and realized we were indeed capable of totally annihilating His creation! So, scratching his hairy chinny-chin-chin, He goes "I know! I'll go in there myself, in human form, and experience humanity in the flesh, teach them a New Testament of brotherly love, and then become the sacrificial lamb at Yom Kippur--the Atonement, and actually BE the scapegoat with all the sins piled on my back instead of the animal goat who gets symbolically driven out of town laden with everyone's sins! Then, since they will continue to sin anyway, having free will, as long as they believe in Me as The Way, they will be saved and redeemed from their own iniquity!" Ah Ha! He came to change the Old Testament Law of Moses of "an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth" into "love one another." Wow. And yet still today we'd rather just kill the s.o.b. we have issues with and hatred for--right?? Hm. Born with free will--we will sin again and again, in thought if not in word or deed, so there is no redemption for our own guilt--except for that sacrificial lamb. The teachings of Jesus have remained steadfast for over 2,000 years. That alone speaks volumes. We are stuck in 3-D, the density of Matter. It sure ain't no 5-D. I think of it as an old vinyl 33-1/3 record album, and Heaven is the hole in the center toward which we are heading (eventually). Our Earth and it's Milky Way universe are the first cut on the record, and Marvin Gaye is singing "Oh mercy, mercy, me-eee, things ain't what they used to be-eee." But there's a scratch on the vinyl and the diamond needle is worn and has lint, so the cut gets stuck in the same groove, skipping, and all we hear is "Oh, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy, mercy...." over and over again. We in the density of matter are stuck in that groove, only using 10% of our brains. Hello?!! Take a leap of Faith, my friend--it's awesome on the flip side.   See 2 other replies
