I like this show, but trying to extend todays morality on things that happened up to 400 years ago is unfair to history at best. We're supposed to believe he's the same forward thinking, progressive individual he was then? He was most likely a bigoted racist like every other white man back then. Women had no rights, blacks had no rights, a lowly stageman was more likely to be killed by the rich guys 2nd. Rich guy had no honor in raping girls, shooting 'A' in the back would be more like him.
Minor quibble: the men carried their flintlock pistols with the barrels upright so the powder and ball didn't fall out. Amsterdam, after having been shot, used the gun as a stilt, with the barrel pushed into the ground to get back up. His weapon wouldn't have fired.
Speaking of morality, there is none in this show. A married woman sleeps with the big 'A' because why? She's thinking of leaving her hubby anyway, so WTF? Why not? It feels good and that's what she wants. And yes, I blame her because SHE'S the one who's married. If marriage is so meaningless today, why engage in it? People who cheat on their spouses are not trustworthy. Divorce first.
'A' wants to fall in love with this broad. She's beautiful enough, no doubt. But why marry a cheater? John wouldn't "deflower" the young maid, but a married woman? Hey, no problem. Amsterdam's been married before. I guess it doesn't bother him either. Maybe it's not morality... maybe it's chivalry. Or common decency. Which one is dead? I hope it's just Hollywood with it's head up it's @ss about reality. Probably not.
And of course they didn't finalize the nun/cabbie issue. Did the cab driver get away with the horrific rape/slaying of the nun or what?
