Though this wasn't my favorite episode by any means, it was one that stood out in memory because of Robbie the Robot. Sorry LIS,, but I was rooting for Robbie. I had always thought that Irwin Allen should have purchased Robbie (costume) for LIS to begin with - because let's face it, he's just so damn cool looking, almost by even today's standards. He made an appearance on a Twilight Zone episode as well. Robbie had a cameo appearance in the movie Gremlins (at the inventor's convention scene) - I never liked the idea of the LIS robot mysteriously gaining "emotions" cracking wise, or dishing out morel banter. (at least in the movie, such behavior was explained by Will's personal programming - though I'm not a fan of the movie.) I guess if LIS was recreated by today's standards, the robot would have an "artificial intelligence" therefore could havethe excuse of android-like emotions - but this is a robot, not an android - a machine, like your washer or dryer (with a better computing system) but a machine, none-the-less. Even number 5 didn't come to be alive until "Godly" intervention took place with a lightning bolt.
What struck me as hilarious in this episode, was the fact that: here they are, a group of scientists stranded on a alien planet, come across an alien robot, and have so little interest in it's discovery, as to dismiss it for morning biscuits. lol. They are struggling to survive on this bleak world, and dismiss an opportunity to reactivate another "helpful" hand because they already have one. lol. Also - after restored, the writers gave little if any explanation as to the Robinson's suspicions of Robbie's intentions before they decided he was "evil." "Oh thank you, Robbie, you are very helpful." (and in the same breath) "I wish I never activated you, I hate you."
In conclusion, I must point out - that this is the first time I noticed that the problems of our hapless space family was not caused by Dr. Smith this time. And also - it was the most work, I've seen Dr. Smith perform.
