Despite the poor production values that were the norm until stanley kubrick's 2001, this is a reasonably enlightened s.f. story for the 60's. The woman,Lee, who leads the inquiry into the meteorites at the beginning of the story is an unusually strong character for time period. Most female characters of the day were there to just look on with wonder as tthe hero wins the day. Oh, wait. I guess they still may movies like that now. I digress.The story is a good science fiction tale that does not make too many concessions the usually studio demands for eye candy like having aliens that are leggy bathing-suit wearing amazons in need of earth men to revitalize their gene pool. We don't need stuff like that in our science fiction any more. That 's what anime and vampire movies are for.
