Special notice should be given to the effort made with the cinematography here. It may look hokey now, but the bizarre camera angles used to heighten the mood or tension of the scenes was probably pretty effective at the time. And I thought the skeletal, disintegrating remains of the alien spaceship were cool and added a little bit of a gothic ambience. Overall you could almost say the story was a blend of sci-fi and horror, maybe 80/20.
The episode wasn't without its humor either, and I don't think the fact that the miraculous wishing device was a silly-looking hat one had to wear was accidental.
