I work in South Central LA and there are many schools that receive free lunches because they are low income. I would not eat those lunches. The lunches don't taste good and it is all filled with carbs.   See 10 other replies

Oh, YES THEY DO GET FREE LUNCHES! I work in a school in south central and all the surrounding schools near mine are getting free lunches due to low social economic factors. We, the taxpayers, are paying for crappy meals for the kids. The students don't get to choose. The students sometimes get pizza twice a week. I use to work at the cafeteria when I was in elementary from 4th grade to the end of 5th. They use to package their foods in smaller portions, so it wasn't that bad. The foods they serve were pretty gruesome in middle school and I would purposely avoided the cafeteria foods for a whole year and ate those huge face sized cookies or 99 cent bag of chips. The next year, I changed schools into an environment that actually cared for the quality of food served. The food wasn't the healthiest (2 soft tacos, a small box of Chinese noodle, thin slice of pizza, or those 25 cent snack sized chips), but it was at least in portion and cleanlier than the LA school. It was strange to see when I was a kid how easily my weight dropped.   See 10 other replies

this is now become a quickly spreading, fast growing epidemic. who cares if kids want to eat pizza over chicken. come on. THEY ARE KIDS! put the chicken on the freaking pizza and call it a day. best of both worlds. he is expecting that parents and people in power realize that kids are rapidly declining in health all over the country. i know three children who shoot themselves up with insulin ever day. CHILDREN! for Christs sake. and it is because of the processed, packaged, sugar filled crap that schools put in front of them. they are losing a battle that they can't even fight for themselves. parents need to ban school food. COMPLETELY. liken it to a union strike. there is no need for kids in America to have to grow up with such a high obesity rates as a "norm". critics say its money, or kids just need to exercise more. wake up! PLEASE! we are allowing people to tell us that MONEY is the reason why we are slowly killing the next generations of the u.s. read that sentence out loud to yourself. we are KILLING CHILDREN to save MONEY. unacceptable. end of story.   See 10 other replies
