Still Top-Drawer!
I haven't seen episode 1 of this series in 46 years, but it's at least as funny, well-rehearsed, beautifully-paced, good-natured, and unpredictable as I remember. The print is exquisite, dialogue doesn't require subtitles, and the powerful, pervasive sense of optimism fairly radiates from the screen like a prescription mood-elevator. Mad Men provides a very effective downside counterweight to the charming, innocuous ebullience here, but this show remains for me the absolute pinnacle of American escapist entertainment. It's brilliantly orchestrated FUN!
