I started watching this movie thinking I was going to see a mindless comedy, which I was in the mood for, and ended up seeing a good movie! Who knew Pauly Shore could act?? (I mean other than the same character he's always played in every movie before?) While this was technically a comedy, I guess, his role was more dramatic than comedic, and he pulled it off well! Too bad this movie was too low-key for him to make the jump that Jim Carrey and others have made into serious movies. Whatever happened to Janine Turner? She's been good in everything I've seen her in, but I haven't seen her for at all for awhile. Ned Beatty played a solid bad guy role in this, as well. If you don't like Pauly Shore, this movie is for you, because he is not Pauly Shore in this movie. He is actually the character of Chuck Betts, small-town Texas boy just trying to find a way to get out and make his dream happen. Will wonders never cease?
