I have to agree with the OP of this thread. A lot of people seem to be making the mistake of equating realism with quality. This isn't just an action comedy, it's a PARODY of Cold War spy thrillers. The style of drawing helps the audience be in on the gag. Just like any other genre of film. each genre of anime has it's own conventions. Harem Comedies make extensive use of chibi to denote childishness or exceptional cuteness. Anime Noire, e.g. Cowboy Bebop, uses light and dark with dark background music to establish the right atmospherics. In 009-1, charicature is used to keep us from taking things too seriously. The spyborg babes are the most realistically drawn characters, because they are where the creative team want our attention focused. But not so realistically that it isn't clear that they're 2 dimensional fantasy girls. The other characters are pretty much scenery and props. The use of charicature instantly shows the stereotypes we need to understand these 1 dimensional characters and move on, facilitating keeping up with the fast paced action. In the case of this series, we're not talking High Art. It's intended to be a lighthearted romp and I think it achieves that. The lack of nudity and yuri is disappointing for an MA rating. But I guess you can't have everything. I see 009-1 as a funny and pleasant time killer/
