I was only 5 when this came out, so I caught it in reruns in the early 70's. This show completely blew away all shows for budget and efx....just look at some of the efx from back then (the 800 story underground lab, the recreations of full scale sets - The Titanic, a rocket ship, a castle, etc...). Great concept that captured in the hearts of a generation that believes that time travel is possible someday......I believed it....I believed it so much that now I go to work everyday exhilarated that I work in quantum physics - specifically the practical application for quantum sciences........who knew this show would start a seed in my mind for my career now. I watched this show when it first aired on September 9 th 1966, I was only 9 years old and I believed that time travel could really happen. I would watch the reruns on A&E and also Quantum Leap when it was also playing on cable, because I worked nights and never saw the originals on NBC when it premiered Thursday Nights with Scott Bakula.
I still would like to believe that someday it will happen but only if a private person could develop it and keep it from government hands. What a trip that would be!
