which characters are who now? This first episode seemed like quite the jumbled mess of information. A story told by people who weren't in the plot, at least not yet. 30 characters all with similar, crazy names, and constant jumping around of places, times, and characters. I'm not saying it was impossible to follow, but the writer didn't make it a picnic. However, I do like the idea of immortals being present in the gang type atmosphere of the time period being portrayed. It seems like the type of place they would place themselves. Well, I was a little confused, but still rather enjoyed the action. Dio Omicida -out-

It is without a doubt that anime is a saturated market, with countless new shows coming out. It is only once in a great while that one truly stands out on it's own. Baccano is one of those animes. It contains your standard character types: oblivious, "badguy", innocent, mentor, etc; Baccano on the other hand does what every good show does, take a seemingly familiar idea but have their own narrative. Many animes nowadays take the same 'ol story (melodrama, fighting robots, gifted teens, etc) and fall short when it comes to story. Baccano on the other hand without truly focusing on one main character has a compelling narrative that keeps you coming back for more. For those that watch the posted dubbed version if they are full metal alchemist fans, will notice that many of the voice actors are in this series as well. This means of course that whether you choose to watch subtitled or dubbed, it is an equally enjoyable experience. Enjoy.
