This is seriously one of my favorite anime shows. The story never loses its pace and makes you wonder what happens next. Sure there happens to be some nudity here and there. True, there is an excessive amount of gore but it captures the reality of what samurai's went through during those times. If you like a complex yet simple story line then you must watch this anime. This is beyond excellent.

After watching what I consider the best anime out there (Ghost in the Shell, Cowboy Bebop, etc) I had lost hope of finding any really good anime, especially recently made.This anime was an amazing surprise as I stumbled upon it not knowing anything about it. The quality is just amazing. The music sounds movie-like, the artwork and character design feels consistent and detailed, and it's story never looses it's pace nor mood.Shigurui is everything I expect from anime and I do hope more series follow suit.

The unrelenting attention to detail style of lineart, minimal animation sequences, and gorgeous hand crafted SFX demonstrates much of what Killing Frenzy's bushido(way of sword) actually implied. THis level of quality and thoughtfulness is becoming more and more rare among the anime being created nowadays. If nothing else this anime should serve as a reminder why japanese are known for creating perfection in whatever they devote themselves to. And why corperations (even japanese ones) cannot ever even hope to attain such a level. THis is the type of artwork & storytelling which made anime a world phenomenon, i hope this is not the last I see of the old style anime tradition. The new style as of roughly 2000 is quite pitiful and lacks almost all the redeeming qualities of anime from the 1970-late1990...with any luck the artform will revive itself on merit alone. Oneigai Shimasu...
