What a fantastic film! I feel such a sense of pride while watching this movie! My brother and I were very fortunate to go to York. I had Mr. Newton as a gym teacher one year, and my brother, who is 3 years older than me, was once a part of that Long Green Line, and had the honor of having Coach Joe Newton being his mentor.
In all these years, Coach Newton is still the same inspirational, motivational, go getter, that he was back when we attended York. I am so thrilled that a movie was actually made about Mr. Newton and his loyal, hardworking crew of kids!
This film really captures all the dedication and strong efforts that Mr. Newton, his team, and York put forth, to really make them the pride of Elmhurst! I also like the way the unfortunate news of the students involved with committing arson was incorporated into this film. Sadly, that part does tarnish the image of York/Elmhurst a little bit, but I like how we see Coach Newton handling this issue and helping his team rise above it, and continue in the Long Green Line greatness.
I am hoping I can move back to Elmhurst by the time my 3 year old son is ready for high school. Not only is it a privilege to go to York, but to be a member of Coach Joe Newton's "family" is an honor. I hope my son is as fortunate as my brother and I were.
