I started watching this on a whim because I had nothing better to do, but I ended up on the edge of my seat for the entire film. Chilling, but also brilliant. A fantastically made movie. It draws an intense emotional response, quite a feat with such a base subject as the Marquis de Sade. In short, I was blown away.
But be warned, it does not end happily.
i think this review space has been taken advantage of by a bunch of elderly. its hard to believe that the majority's opinion is represented here. in my opinion, this movie is good, but not that good. i reccommend it if youve got nothing else to do. this maybe a bit harsh, but i came out of the movie almost wishing that HuLu had a better selection. But then again, i am pretty hungover.
This is one of the most intense movies I've seen in years. But even though it has dark plot twists, murder, and sex. It is beautifully shot. If you want to see a film that glues you to your seat, watch Quills.
I loved the reality in it even though it was greusome and sad at the end.There were some scenes I had to look away from, the acting was wonderful and the story compelling.
A wonderful gem I had not heard of, cunning, dark and delightful. Geoffrey Rush personifies unrepentent lustfulness, and Kate Winslet captures wonderfully the coming of age maiden. Phoenix does a fine job of showing the inner struggle between virtue and lust, while Caine is the of hypocracy in authority. Very good entertainment.
Sordid story trying to pose as a period piece. Definitely not a "Dangerous Liaisons" like one reviewer suggested. Waste of time. Wish I has watched another movie instead.
