I rarely comment, but Samuel has got to be the most tiresome villain in history.
The best villains are the ones you can sympathize with or admire in some way. They make you care about what's going to happen to them whether it be finding redemption or getting their backsides handed to them by the Hero(es). With Samuel, I don't care what actually happens; I just want him gone so something more interesting can happen. He's vile, needy, and achingly dull. It's not even like he had the charisma to bring the Carnival folks together initially-- his brother did it. All he's done is exploit the trust/feeling of community his brother created.
At the start of the season, I kept hoping this carnival thing was a side plot because the "bad guy" was just so... bad.
I really miss the spark the show had earlier in its run.
