Um, I did not label an entire country ANYTHING. The list of claims about Japan are pulled from comments made IN THE FILM, and I introduce them as "ridiculous, false claims".

Maybe you missed the film makers' own perspective, which I agree with, regarding masks. At least try to muster up enough intellectual honesty to acknowledge that.

Well... we all know of some basement dwelling nerds who may as well be parasites. Not to put down all nerds, but even us nerds know of fellow nerds who meet and exceed the negative stereotypes...

And yet again the American anime fans who self label themselves otaku come to find the origins of the term. The term literally means "in the house" and comes from obsessive anime fans who are shut ins. This is one of a number of reasons I really am upset that other anime fans use the term otaku so affectionately. There is a very dark underbelly to the term and the term is not full positive. Never mind that the term refers to not only manga fanatics, but can be applied to most any hobby.

Sounds like some classic projection of repressed urges to me. What? Are you just jealous Japan is so up front about their desires? Well, they're actually a fairly repressed culture as much as America. The erotic manga featured here is actually just a fissure though which the culture's id can be seen. And don't act like America or other cultures are that much different. Judge not lest ye be judged. It takes some never, not to mention prejudice and racism, to label and entire country pedophiles.

This look at the manga culture in Japan was very insightful and very revealing about why manga is so popular in Japan. The people complaining on here either are not watching this with true intrest (focusing on quality of music) or are taking too much of a western point of view (calling manga disgusting or child rape) instead of looking at it from the point of view of the Japanese culture. If you really want a look inside their culture and why they hold manga and anime so high, this is a great way to begin to understand it.
