pretty interesting but a little slow.... some scenes were repeated over and over again...
loved the submarine though.

Ripped-off footage
A lot of scenes were straight from the series: guy spilling tray in hallway; large chunks of "sinking ice" hitting Seaview's hull; frogmen hunting for cable ("sonar boom" in series) with sawfish getting speared, giant squid, etc.; entire mine-field sequence; giant octopus sequence (complete with shocking conclusion); chase by other sub, including all torpedoes and "implosion" of other sub; misc. surfacing, diving, and running footage. All from the show! Question: Aren't there color versions somewhere of the early original series?
I'll watch anything with Barbara Eden in it, though! Was this review helpful?

tv series or movie?
The first season of Voyage was great,as in the movie there was elements that continue in later seasons of the show.but the movie had excellent special effects(no computer fx)and decent underwater photography.however as a fan of Voyage the story line was used.. several times in the show.as well parts from the movie. I say the the first season of the show is still the best of the two.

Released the year before I was born, this is the kind of stuff I was raised on. What's most amazing is the things they could do 30 years before CG! Even though the special effects were rotten by today's standards, the movies were plot driven, and that's what mattered, at least back then.
As a life long sci-fi fan, my teeth were cut on movies like this and "Forbidden Planet" (which, itself deserves a remake). And they kick it off with the trailer for the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still"! How cool is that, huh? On the down side, I have problems with the science, but back then we still didn't know much about the Van Allen radiation belt and other stuff, so, hey, it's just a movie, just sit back and enjoy it!
