Clare sets up 'The Book Group' in an effort to meet some new and interesting people, unfortunately for her, those who arrive at the first session are clearly not the friends she hoped to meet.
As long as you take everything lightly and don't have high expectations for the show, it's hilarious. There's alot of hidden humor and sarcasm, I love it. I love the accents too. The main character Clare is a weird, rude, and a not very attractive woman, but I'm pretty sure that's the point. It's a good show to watch if you have nothing to do.
good on ya! i totally get sick of stereotypes, in real life. how would edwin like us to stereotype "naturalized" citizens i wonder? hmmmmmmm. i mean, really, how many people can he actually know? i've been over the world and spent time with all kinds of people. only truly ignorant people buy into sterotypes of any nationality or ethnicity.

I sit here watching this so called comedy wondering wheres the funny? and feeling bad that this stereotype of a rude, ignorant american made me just want to stop watching after the first 10min.maybe it will get better further along?
Yea, specifically Cincinnati Ohio.... I've lived in the area for 30+ years. Not everybody is like Clare, but so many. The curious thing is that most of the Clare's of Cinti would rather swim the Ohio River in December than read a book, especially one such as On the Road requiring actual thinking....But I do think in the end that Clare doesn't go psychotic, she's disfunctional, not psychotic, she may even be flitting around the high end of Autistic Spectrum Disorder - unable to know she's really being rude.

That stereotype of American women certainly exists for a reason, (and I'm saying this as an American woman, although I hope I don't act like that myself!), but that doesn't make it any less stressful to watch. I'd love an opportunity to live in Scotland, and to see her waste it as such is infuriating!
I agree, she obviously she has blood sugar mood issues and should have just had some tea and a biscuit. And why is she so against biscuits anyways?
