Closer than you think, I'll bet! Appropriately named after the shortest distance between these two countries (53 miles), 'Bering Strait' was a Russian musical group which crossed the musical gap to embrace American home-grown Country / Bluegrass music and make it their own. This cinéma vérité production begins with an interesting glimpse into the lives of the two girls and five guys in their Mother Russia where their talent and enthusiasm for Country music mostly created bemusement. It documents these seven young and talented musicians on their journey to America seeking fame and fortune. They arrive just in time to witness the worst downturn in recent Country & Western music industry history.Soon, both the film and the band settle into a routine of frustration, tedium and boredom. The solution (for both) should have been "more music!" -- but alas, we get more frustration, tedium and boredom, as the realization sinks in that becoming an overnight success takes time. How about a musical montage, or something? More music, please! Anyway... one band member bails out, but this viewer decides to stick it out to the end. I'm glad I did; overall, I enjoyed hanging out with the band and listening to their music (more, please!).

Love the bluegrass by these super talents. The Russian Balalaika is like a Mandolin and a Banjo. In my opinion, their next step in growth is to create unique lyrics and sounds. America is all about new and original.
On stage, the voice of the lovely lead singer was muffled by the sound of the rest of the band. She should belt out her lyrics and be the audio focal point and lead. Her talent was not shining through. Listen to Janis Joplin to get the point. Joplin became famous when she finally let loose.
Also, this same young lady went through a tragic experience with the death of her father, and she could translate her deep feelings into the lyrics of a song that would really connect with people in the audience.
The band needs a songwriter, and each one of them might be able to write unique lyrics from their personal experiences, happy and sad.
Also, you should develop a unique look and stage act.

I knew this band was doomed the moment that cute girl cut her hair and looked like a nasty punker. Granted, it's totally her choice, but the facts are the music business is show business. You have to play to your target audience.No one goes to a punk band rave, and wants to see a blue jeans, a cowboy hat and spurs on their boots. Right... and no one goes to a country show to see a girl in a punker out fit with her hair shaved and covered in tattoos.I think it's great they moved forward, and pressed on. And I'm even happy with the punker girl who likes that look. Just... maybe she'd be better off in a punker band, instead of trying to do bluegrass as a punk. Country folk do not like nasty punk people. It'll never work.
