Just Outstanding

I must say I love this new show. I have watched every single episode and already have some favorites just from the few already made. I really hope FOX gives this show a chance. It has some real potential. There are so many directions this show can go considering how old his character is. I love how they blend the past with the present. Keep up the good, no great, work!

I just started watching this show. Liked the pilot episode so I'm back for more. I agree that Fox should give this show a chance...and hopefully the show continues to keep me hooked.

A Pleasant New Spin On An Old Idea

I'm pleasantly surprised by this spin on the Highlander idea. Amsterdam seems more adult than the Highlander series and is already tackling more mature themes. One nit I'd like to pick, however, is how tired I am of the "weary immortal seeking mortality". We've seen it in Forever Knight, Highlander, Moonlight, and now New Amsterdam. Note to the networks, a fast, easy way to originality is to give us an immortal who is happy about it. Say a history buff or something.

I like the idea that John has family, but I think it would be more interesting if his extended family all knew about him and each other former a network of people he can go to for help in solving crimes much like The Shadow's network of people whom he'd saved.

I really like the family aspect of this episode. It adds an intriguing layer to his character.

Touching

Once in awhile there comes a show that not only tugs at your heartstrings but also makes you think. This is that show. Welcome to what I hope will be a show of great quality like that of Cheers, Quantum Leap or M.A.S.H.

Good but not great

Great would be taking the plot and theming it out with the historical subplot. Like having each week the storyline arc, have a meaningful influence/interaction with his historical background. This week we were able to come to understand more about father/son/mother, but that in no way tied in with the auto-erotic asphyxiation. If instead the weekly 'solved mystery' actually correlated with John Amsterdam's background, that would make the show great. Now, it's just good.

Nice feel to the historical flashbacks!

There have been other series about various kinds of immortality, but the "Romeo and Juliet" theme has been explored a few times also. The flashbacks are well done, and the various subplots, engaging.

Other reviewers mention working strange hours, and how great hulu is, for all of us "strage hours" people. I saw the third episode on TV, but got to see the pilot and 2nd episode on hulu.
