This is about multinational corporations who have resources and every financial motivation to subvert the common interest of the people, dodge governments who they now dwarf, without any regard for what inherent damages that may have been externalized from the corporation; pollution, reckless disregard for safety of others and the environment (even this year with BP and the oil spill we will be dealing with 100 years from now), with a complete sense of detachment from admitting any wrong doing, or any responsibility to fix what they broke, shocking worker compensation, and much more recently the biggest issue: the buying of governments. Everything is a commodity now, even governments. Especially if not MOST especially the U.S. government. They want you to be a number. They want you to feel hopeless. They want your dependence or perceived dependence on them and their product. They want you addicted if this is even a remote possibility. They want you to have health problems; industries are reinforcing other industries and partnerships made between those industries. They want to destabilize the economy to create larger swings in the market, particularly if this creates a perceived need within the market, while effectively creating a system which extracts money from the regular citizen and redistributes it into larger returns for shareholders (many of whom are now foreign investors) and the CEOs at the top, sacrificing worker pensions and employee benefits and wages so their stock will go up 1/4 of a point. They show it quite plainly in the film, from destabilization there's always someone who profits; that's not propaganda, that's not spin, that's truth. "Its a game." Even now, with the US economy running wildly towards a cliff, there are people making immense profits. And I'm sure they're hoping for even worse, because with more wild swings, they stand to be able to make more money, and the average citizen stands to lose it. And ironically you have all this Republican vs Democrat division, when really its about a common interest of the people. Actual people, not a corporation as a "person". Not bought politicians masquerading as working for "the people" when really they've been bought just like any other privatized commodity. The real dangers here with corporations no longer subject to governments, is they can only be subject to the people. But without governments to restrict/restrain or hold corporations accountable for obvious malfeasance against the public interest, frankly corporations will logically BECOME the governments. They ALREADY ARE doing so in point of fact. And when corporations become the government, we're all truly f@#$ed, Republican AND democrat AND independent, everybody. The economy will no longer work for the people, which we are already seeing, since essentially despite "safe and responsible" investing by the average consumer, that investment capital will be abused by those who receive it and it will be essentially gambled away, finding its way into certain powerful corporate hands who bet against you. And the shift to privatized police forces, then armies will not be far behind (cough cough blackwater cough cough), and not far behind that will be what everyone truly fears and that's very real tyranny and oppression, subject to whomever has the most money and influence.This movie is honestly the scariest movie I have EVER seen, without any exaggeration whatsoever. If we privatize everything, we will have nothing.
