This show is truly epic. It's the dub that ruins it. Calling "Kenshin" "Kenshi"--there IS an "N" in there. I remember watching Rurouni Kenshin on Toonami back in the '90s long before I knew what anime was or that it was called anime. So I'll give it props for the actual show since it's exactly the same as Rurouni Kenshin, but that's the only thing that saves it. The lag is also terrible too. Also "Slasher"?! "SLASHER?! Bwahahahhahahahhahahahaa!!!!!!!!!!! Just an FYI people who are unfamiliar with this, it's supposed to be "Manslayer". I'm guessing this is where censorship comes in? And absolutely no personality. She's supposed to be angry when confronting Kenshin in the beginning. It's also "Meji" not "Meking" Era. And here I thought this was the original and Rurouni Kenshin was a spin off or something. I'm glad Rurouni Kenshin is the TRUE version. I only favorited this because of it being the only version Hulu has.

I cant stand this...absolutely horrible..I literally watched this version and the newer version (2003) on YouTube laughing my ass off at how horrible this version is. Not only are the voice atrocious..but the dialogue is completely shot. This version is a complete disaster; there is nothing close to a "more mature way of speaking." There is no personality in these voices, it is all lazy and just plain disrespectful (Kori??...Bat-TOO-sai...SLASHER!?!"). This English dub is exactly the reason English dubs gets such a bad wrap. There is no difference between this version and the newer version in regards to censorship. I highly recommend watching this on YouTube or any other site that has Rurouni Kenshin..NOT Samurai X. If i could give a rating of less than one for this version, I would...

Rurouni Kenshin... I've disliked many English Dubs in the past, but Rurouni Kenshin was one I actually praised (for the most part). This...this just makes me cry. It's not even the fact that the voice actors aren't the same as the ones I remembered, but it's also the fact that they pronounced words differently and used different words that are utterly lame in comparison (Slasher...?). If you're DESPERATE, watch this. If you're not DESPERATE and you can find the other version...PLEASE do. It will be a much better watch.Otherwise...Rurouni Kenshin as a whole is a very good story, so it's worth it to find the better version so you don't pull your hair out while watching.

As anime dubs go, this is actually pretty good. Far better than 4kids' one piece, for example. It has good synchronization with the moth movement, and the translations are good. Further, they haven't edited the animation to make it more "appropriate".
But the NAMES!
Batoosai the Slasher? Corrie? Dr. Jensai? And possibly worst of all... Hittin' Mitserugi???
Furthermore, they haven't captured at all the fact that Kenshin speaks a little oddly, which is integral to understanding of the plot/character in just a few episodes!!I'd give it one more star if the names didn't bug me so much.

This.... Isn't a redubbing... This is Sony's attempt at bringing anime to the states over a decade ago, in which they failed miserably. The rights were eventually bought by Media Blasters, and the series was returned to a more accurate script and better voice acting.However, the fact that this version was licensed for Hulu over the other version- despite
the obvious horrific outcome- is more depressing than the fact that it still somehow exists.Even I sat and gaped at this atrocity.Ah well.Just google The Media Blasters Dub of Rurouni Kenshin to find a stream that isn't this garbage- and also lacks commercials.

Ok, same kenshin voice actor, but just a renamed version and honestly karu sounds more annoying than the first dub!!!!!!!!!!!! Why redo a series in English when the original was fine! When I saw the title I thought it was the actual series because everyone kept telling me there was a separate samurai x and I knew of the ova that I absolutely love is called samurai x!!!!!! however called "trust and betrayal!" I thought that was it! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! They actually had to redub the original version! I love the original version!!!!!!! SO much better, why did they have to do this with kenshin. No wonder VIZ and Funimation are having a hard time getting the older ones because they may have to do this if they buy some of those older titles like Fushigi Yugi and Sailor Moon, yes Geneon names but they are still up in the air and thus not really copyrighted since the titles have not been bought out yet...... Don't know how true that really is but I think pretty close since some titles have yet to be bought.... How dare kenshin get destroyed!!!!!!!!!!!

At least put up the subtitled version sheesh, this version is bad. 90 seconds in and i couldnt take any more.
