I watched the original, English film. It followed the typical comedy-of-errors format brilliantly. This remake is clearly designed to tap a "different' market. Too few Americans saw Death at a Funeral when it was released.
I was upset when I learned about this film a year ago. I've had time to mourn the (possible and quite likely) degradation of a gem of a film. {I like English humour and it does not translate ---- see the many, many failed optioned sitcoms (Coupling, Teachers, etc.)}.
I assume in addition to making money from a specific market, Mr. Rock chose not to change the name so that those who see this film will be curious to see the first film. I assume he thought enough of the first film to pay it that respect --- that and this is a film-by-numbers remake.
