This is an interesting and intelligently written show featuring Rashida Jones and an ensemble cast of very talented relative unknowns. Get set to have your brain stroked. While it's premise of four friends striking out on the dating scene again scores a homerun for originality in a field where most new shows are merely trying to mimic that which has come before, it also lands a double punch with it's writing, which seems geared for the over 35 of age and over 125 IQ crowd. True it has a "...Sunny In Philadelphia" feel, but it comes without the seedy element featured on that show and it's ensuing comedic "appeal". Or let me put it this way---it is not as funny as "...Sunny In Philadelphia" but it is a higher brow of comedy. It has a perpetually tame "vibe" throughout, appearing deliberately paced, a style which works to elevate the humor above the cheap joke or gag line. This is somehow maintained even when the aroused simian lunges at the naked backside of Jack "Gator" Gately in the opening scene. In spite of this, don't look for anything too outrageous, or even gut busting for that matter. Just well written soft comedy with a slight cerebral edge. Enjoyable with a lot of potential.
