I saw From Beyond in the theater when it was first released. It hasn't worn well. As a fan of Jeffrey Combs, Barbara Crampton and the far superior Re-Animator, From Beyond seemed better in '86. Now it's just a mess of a few satisfactorily gory and amusing bits. As with Stephen King's books, the Lovecraft mythos rarely translates well to a good movie - although Cthulhu does make for good image macro memes. Protip: Turns out those gaping maws, tentacles and slime that seemed scary in the novels aren't that horrifying in movies. Good to see Ken Foree again (Dawn of the Dead) but his performance in this movie seemed off key and too clownish. As usual, Crampton has a little fun with raunchy humor, as when she gets a little head in Re-Animator.
