Children and the elderly, ill and asthmatic are most sensitive to the pollution generated by coal plants. I have yet to see any town say that yes indeed, the townspeople have seen that there is such a thing as a clean coal-burning plant, and no one is suffering next to it.
Global warming, the carbon dioxide increase from industry, the melting of the subpolar ice sheets near the ozone holes, and massive disruptions of normal global weather patterns are science, not science fiction. They are not imaginary. Although these disasters can never be stopped or reversed, if we want to slow down the loss of our atmosphere and the rising of the sea, keep our coastlines a little longer, and have fewer species go extinct quickly, we have to take drastic action NOW--each and every one of us. We need solar panels, hybrid cars, wind farms, hydropower, geothermal power, anything that is renewable and does not pollute. We need efficient energy grids. We have to plant trees to absorb some of our excess CO2 and make oxygen.
