One more thing, in this day and age if a man were to try to change a woman her friends would tell her he should love her as she is. I was raised in this dynamic and Darren and his wife was raised in theirs. They might find my point of views distasteful and you know what, I would not hold them fault for that. Our society changes our views one way or the other. However just because I can understand where they are coming from in no way do I have to agree. And notice I did not resort to calling you a child, or throw any thinly veiled insults your way.I think doing so would be a bit childish. "It's sickening to think that not that long ago that was acceptable" I said that. Which means I CAN fathom the time line and accept that not that long ago this was acceptable. That does not mean I have to like it or approve. And I perfectly in my right to express my distaste. Just because it was acceptable in 1965 does not mean I have to be alright with it. The same logic can be applied to slavery. I am sickened that not that long ago is was acceptable. And I would feel in my right to express that distaste. So I again, fail to see your point, if ever you had one. I see his behavior as oppressive, you think that makes me narrow minded, I'm okay with that. What I'm not okay with is your lack of a point. Maybe you should figure out what narrow-minded means. Because I did say I understood that his behavior was apart of the show and the times. I am assuming you are over the age of 15 so I think you should be capable of putting things into context. This show was for a 1965 or so audience. It is about a 1965 or so couple in a 1965 or so relationship. Do I really need to explain further? I would hope you could figure it out on your own. ( I vote for thank your lucky stars, but I am barely mortal)He loves her and each time it is tested by life, he comes out shining.
They have a strong relationship and they are clearly passionate about one another.He is not really a buffoon, he is just out matched and he is rolling with it as well as he can.I think they are modeling some skills and qualities that are a good example for the rest of us.

I think it is hilarious.
She is always in control, always gracious and supremely fair and still handling the problem, always promising not to use witchcraft ( might as well ask her not to breathe) and still using it AND he regularly asks her to use it to bail him out.he is a bafoon and she is a goddess and he knows it.
that is what he is trying to compensate for.i am in awe of her grace and her ablility to maintain her composure when dealing with so many mortal ninnies.one might wonder which skillset he has to inspire such devotion in her.and i have wondered since watching this show as a kid WHY any man would want his chosen partner busy with housework.

Yes, without the conflict of Darrin insisting there be no witchcraft, there would be no show. If everyone agreed and they all got along, then no one would watch the show. You have to admit that Darrin's oppressive behavior is not very realistic either. If a man had a wife who could magically do just about anything, wouldn't he want to take advantage of that instead of telling her not to do magic? Furthermore, why would Samantha put up with that behavior? Why doesn't she sick up for herself and say "This is who I am. Take it or leave it"? The answer is so that they have a show.
