watched the ENTIRE series a while back and it turns out that the "visitors" need our water and our bodies - i.e. food and water. they have none. at least that's what was the deal in the original series.one obvious change in the story plot is that "the visitors" have already been among us for a while as spies/sleeper terrorist cells, scoping out the planet's cultures, gathering Intel,etc. in the original series the emphasis was centered around "first contact" : the arrivial of an intelligent, advanced, extra-terrestrial species. this time around the writers are using a current, real-life issue (for the american public, at least): terrorisism/spies. it wouldn't suprise me if there is at least one sub-plot touching on ENVIRONMENTAL issues (as that is a growing concern as well). i can also see how they've pushed the MEDIA into the center as well. in the original series the male lead was a camera man (he filmed the lizard people and became a target because he knew their secret). in this version he is in front of the camera and "the visitors" are using his popularity/ratings and face as their mouthpiece - at least, that seems to be their intention. nowadays the media plays a bigger role in the americana life style than it did back in the 80's. even though this season has already been "mapped out", we can pretty much guess what else they'll touch on: economy (jobs), health care, immigration and politics.   See 14 other replies

Personally, I'm seeing:
Religion, and how it warps people. The Visitors are creating their own religion or cult and using it. Look how it drives people into extremism in the real world. The use of the media to polarize and/or mollify the populace. One one side the V are making themselves out to to be saviors. And at the other end, they may be spurring destabilization of culture to make people weaker and more susceptible.I'm waiting for a 'Homeland Security' look a like: give up some freedom, it's for your own good. They just want to help.It's the perfect allegory for what's going on in the world today, and has in the past. I'm enjoying the show so far.   See 4 other replies
